Yule 2010

High Priestess, sweeping widdershins around the ritual area:
“We sweep away all negativity from this circle and from ourselves.
We release negativity from our thoughts.
Within this circle, only positive energy remains.
We are safe and guarded within this sacred space.”

Priestess, asperging desoil with salt/water:
“We purify this circle with earth and water.
We purify with the blessed earth.
We purify with the cauldron waters of rebirth.
We purify this circle with the gifts of our Goddess.”

Priest, smudging desoil with lit incense:
“We purify this circle with fire and air.
We purify with the fire of creation.
We purify with the spirit winds.
We purify this circle with the gifts of our God.”

All stand at the edges of the ritual space.
High Priestess:
“Hand to hand we cast the circle,”
The priestess walks desoil to the next person in the circle and takes their hand saying:
“In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.”

They continue around the circle, walking to the next person and as each person clasps the hand to their left they say:
“In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.”

High Priestess, raising her hands, still linked, group follows:
“We cast the circle round and round,
from earth to sky,
from sky to ground.
This is a time that is not a time,
In a place that is not a place,
On a day that is not a day.
We consecrate this circle of power to the Goddess and God.
Here may they manifest and bless their children.
As we stand before the veil of mysteries.
May the Lord and Lady help and protect us on our magical journey.”

Unlink hands.

Greeting to the Goddess and God:
Priestess:
“Goddess of Winter, frozen petal,
God of Winter, diminished sun,
Hear us this longest night!
To you we celebrate.
Welcome Lady!
Welcome Lord!
Blessed Be!”

Extinguish all lights. Allow for personal meditation.

Ring The Bell Three Times, High Priestess:
“This is the night of Yule,
the Winter Solstice,
the longest night of the year.
Darkness reigns triumphant,
yet gives way and changes into light.
The breath of all nature is suspended,
while within the Mother’s cauldron,
Old Man Winter is transformed yet again into the Young God.
As the Lord is reborn we see the Sun reborn with him.”

Priest lights the God candle.

High Priestess:
“The wheel of the year has turned once more,
And the nights have grown longer and colder.
Tonight the darkness begins to retreat,
And light begins its return once again.
As the wheel continues to spin,
The sun returns to us once more.

Even in the darkest hours,
Even in the longest nights,
The spark of light lingered on.
Laying dormant, waiting, ready to return when the time was right.
The darkness will leave us now,
As the sun begins its journey home.”

Light the alter candles starting at the outside and working inward, all chanting:
“As the wheel turns,
Light returns.”

After all the candles are lit, Priest:
“The light of the sun has returned to us,
Bringing life and warmth with it.
The shadows will vanish,
And life will continue.
We are blessed by the light of the sun.”

Merry Meet and Merry Part and Merry Meet Again.”

Join hands. Priestess:
“This is blessed by the Goddess and God. The circle is open yet it ever remains a circle. Around us and through us always flows its magical power. As around us and through us always flow the blessings and love of the Divine. In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust we depart.”

Hands are released starting with the Priestess and going counter-clockwise. As each person releases say:
“In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.”
