Samhain 2010

High Priestess, sweeping widdershins around the ritual area:
“We sweep away all negativity from this circle and from ourselves. We release negativity from our thoughts. Within this circle, only positive energy remains. We are safe and guarded within this sacred space.”

Priestess, asperging desoil with salt/water:
“We purify this circle with earth and water. We purify with the blessed earth. We purify with the cauldron waters of rebirth. We purify this circle with the gifts of our Goddess.”

Priest, smudging desoil with lit incense:
“We purify this circle with fire and air. We purify with the fire of creation. We purify with the spirit winds. We purify this circle with the gifts of our God.”

All stand at the edges of the ritual space.
High Priestess:

“Hand to hand we cast the circle,”
The priestess walks desoil to the next person in the circle and takes their hand saying:
“In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.”
They continue around the circle, walking to the next person and as each person clasps the hand to their left they say:
“In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.”

High Priestess, raising her hands, still linked, group follows:

“We cast the circle round and round,
from earth to sky,
from sky to ground.
This is a time that is not a time,
In a place that is not a place,
On a day that is not a day.
We consecrate this circle of power to the Goddess and God.
Here may they manifest and bless their children.
As we stand before the veil of mysteries.
May the Lord and Lady help and protect us on our magical journey.”

Unlink hands.

Greeting to the Goddess and God:
Priestess:

“Grandmother Hecate,
Wise Crone,
Keeper of the Cauldron,
Your children call you.
Will you join us this Samhain night?
Join our rites,
Bless us with your presence, with your wisdom.
Merry Meet Dark Lady!”

Priest:
“Herne the Hunter,
Horned One,
Master of the Hunt,
Your children call you.
Will you join us this Samhain night?
Join our rites,
Bless us with your presence, with your spirit.
Merry Meet Dark Lord!

High Priestess:
“Samhain marks a special time on the wheel. It is time much like our ritual circle. It is outside time, in between the old year and the new.
This is the third and final harvest festival of the year. It was once custom that you did not harvest anything after tonight, anything left in the fields was a gift to the spirits that would pass between the realms. As Samhain is a time between times it is also the when the veil between the realm of spirits and the realm of the living is like gauze, so thin that any spirit with the want can pass through to visit. Now is when many of us will say goodbye and honor those who have departed, as they pass back and forth through the veil tonight.
Now that the harvests have ended we are also faced with the death of the world around us. This is when things shrink back into themselves and begin their winter sleep. As the wheel is ever turning we can see that this is not eternal and all death brings renewal. But we can take that symbol of death as a way to clear out any negativity in our lives and to start the new year, the new turning of the wheel fresh.”

Preistess:
“Grandmother Hecate, We come to your crossroads to sacrifice the old, so we may begin our journey to the new possibilities that lie ahead.
On this Samhain night we stride between the old year and the new.
We come to you at the crossroads, with your wizened frame stooped over your eternal cauldron to request your aid in cleansing ourselves. We cast our pains, our shortcomings and our fears into your cauldron. With the sacred fire and your blessings we shall cleanse these things from our lives as we enter the new year.”
Everyone can write as many pains, fears, flaws, problems, shortcomings or the like on bits of paper. Once written, crumple them into a loose ball and toss them into the cauldron. Once everyone is finished the Priestess will light the cauldron and burn the petitions.
Priestess:

“With this Sacred Fire, Cleanse!”
Everyone Else:
“Begone!”

Preist:
Herne the Hunter!  We come to your crossroads to sacrifice the old, so we may begin our journey to the new possibilities that lie ahead.
On this Samhain night we stride between the realms of the spirits and the realms of the living.
In this time outside of time, in our circle that exists between all worlds we come to you to remember. As you draw souls to you, stout hunter we make our calls to them. Of peace, of love, of hope we call to your pack. Let our voices both loud and silent reach them.”
Everyone can take as many black tea lights to the ancestor alter as they like. As you light your candle say, think or whisper the name of the person you are honoring into the flame along with any message you would like carried to them.

When Everyone is done we will observe an additional moment of silence for the departed.

Cakes and Ale:
Lift the chalice of wine or cider high and say:

“We drink this wine in praise to the Goddess, created from the fruits of her earth. May you never thirst!”

Pass around the chalice clockwise saying:
“May you never thirst!”

Lift the plate of rolls or cakes high and say:
“We eat these cakes in praise to the God, created from the grains of his earth. May you never hunger!”

Pass around the plate clockwise saying:
“May you never hunger!”

All face South, South Caller:
“Elements of Fire,
Force of will,
Power of creation.
We thank you for your presence.
Go if you must, stay if you will.
Merry Meet and Merry Part and Merry Meet Again.”

All face East, East Caller:
“Elements of Air,
Tower of knowledge,
Power of intuition.
We thank you for your presence.
Go if you must, stay if you will.
Merry Meet and Merry Part and Merry Meet Again.”

All face North, North Caller:

“Elements of Earth,
Eternal strength,

All face center, Priestess:
“Our thanks Great Lady, Glorious Lord.
Your presence fills our bodies and souls with its love and wisdom.
We honor you and accept your blessings into our lives.
We bid you farewell as we close our circle but bid you welcome into our lives.
Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again! Blessed Be!”

Join hands. Priestess:
“This is blessed by the Goddess and God. The circle is open yet it ever remains a circle. Around us and through us always flows its magical power. As around us and through us always flow the blessings and love of the Divine. In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust we depart.”

Hands are released starting with the Priestess and going counter-clockwise. As each person releases say:
“In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.”
