Ostara 2010

Ostara 2010

Move to the edge of the ritual area with the wand in your power hand. Visualize a blue-white flame issuing from the tip. Point at the ground and walk clockwise forming the circle’s boundary.
As you walk:
“We consecrate this circle to the Goddess and God. Here may they manifest and bless their children.”

Stand facing the alter.
“This is a time that is not a time,
in a place that is not a place,
on a day that is not a day.
We come to celebrate Ostara!
We stand at the threshold between the worlds,
before the Veil of Mysteries.”

“May the Goddess and God protect us that we may walk their path forever.
By the bright circle of the golden sun,
by the bright courses of the glorious moon,
by each of these signs,
We call you to this sacred place.
May the Lady and Lord of Spring guard us in this time and place.”

“Come, all those who would help us here.
We give you welcome within this sacred circle.
Join your powers with our desires,
that we may create and accomplish.”

Face west, take the water stone and raise it high.
“The blessings of the Goddess be upon this, our symbol of Water.
May it ever remind us of the endless cauldron waters of rebirth.”

“Elements of the West,
all those ruled by Water,
we call you to witness this ritual and guard this circle.”

Face north, take the earth stone and raise it high.
“The blessings of the Goddess be upon this, our symbol of Earth.
May we ever honor the blessed earth that is Her body in the physical world.”

“Elements of the North,
all those ruled by Earth,
we call you to witness this ritual and guard this circle.”

Face south, take the fire stone and raise it high.
“May the blessings of the Goddess be upon this, our symbol of Fire.
May we ever honor the sacred fire that dances within us.”

“Elements of the South,
all those ruled by Fire,
we call you to witness this ritual and guard this circle.”

Face east, take the air stone and raise it high.
“May the blessings of the Goddess be upon this, symbol of Air.
May we always listen to the spiritual inspiration that whispers to our souls.”

“Elements of the East,
all those ruled by Air,
we call you to witness this ritual and guard this circle.”

Stand facing the alter.
“Round and round,
the power has bound,
this circle tonight in Otherworld light.
No evil may enter,
no harm befall us.
For this is our will,
and so shall it be.”

Sabbat Invocation:

The Ostara Egg:

Tell this story while decorating eggs with markers.

“One of Ostare’s devotees was a small hare who wished very much to give a gift to his Goddess, but he didn’t know what he could possibly offer that would be of any value to her. Then one day while foraging, the hare came across a fresh egg, a very prized commodity indeed. The little hare wanted very badly to eat the egg, as it had been a long time since he’d feasted on anything finer than dry grasses. Before he could take a bite of his prize, he realized this egg might make the perfect gift for Ostare. But, he pondered, Ostare could have all the eggs she wanted, anytime she wanted them. She was a Goddess, a creator, the embodiment of Life itself. Giving her just any egg would never do. How, he wondered, could he make this egg a fit offering for his goddess?

The little hare took the egg home and pondered how to make it as beautiful and new as Ostare made the world each spring. He began to decorate the egg. He painted it in the hues of Ostare’s spring woods and placed upon the shell symbols sacred to Ostare. When he felt he could not make the egg any more beautiful, he took it to Ostare and offered it to her.

Ostare was so pleased by the little hare’s sacrifice of his egg to her, and by the manner in which he decorated it for her, that she wanted everyone – especially children, who are themselves symbols of new life – to enjoy these representations of her bounty. Since that Ostara day long ago, the descendants of that hare have taken up the task of delivering decorated eggs to the world’s children at spring. They are called Ostare’s bunnies.”

Consecration & Empowering

Consecrate and empower necklace.

Raise the necklace in your power hand and the stone of the north in the other.

Banish and be gone!”
“Oh, North,
give your powers of money and stability to this talisman.
Enrich and empower!”

Raise the necklace in your power hand and the stone of the east in the other.
“Be cleansed by the power of Air.
Let the winds blow free all that is negative.
Banish and be gone!”

give your powers of knowledge and ideas to this talisman.
Enrich and empower!”

Raise the necklace in your power hand and the stone of the south in the other.

“Be cleansed by the power of Water.
Let the waves wash away all that is negative.
Banish and be gone!”
“Oh, West,
give your powers of receptivity and daring to this talisman.
Enrich and empower!”

Place the necklace on the alter. All place palms, one up one down, forming a circle, with the rest of the group. Draw energy from the earth and sky.

All chant, as a round:
“Enrich, enrich, enrich.
Empower, empower, empower.
Build, build, build.
Grow, grow, grow.”

When the power is at it’s peak, the priestess says:
“Power Peaks, now release!”
On –release- all members of the circle point their palms at the necklace and push the energy into the necklace.

Lift the chalice of wine or cider high and say:
“We drink this wine in praise to the Goddess,
created from the fruits of her earth. May you never thirst!”

Pass around the chalice and as each person passes the chalice on to the next person say:
“May you never thirst!”

Lift the plate of rolls or cakes high and say:
“We eat these cakes in praise to the Goddess, created from the grains of her earth. May you never hunger!”

Pass around the plate and as each person passes the plate on to the next person say:
“May you never hunger!”
