Lughnasadh 2009

Lughnasadh 2009

Ring the Bell (Sound gong, beat drum…) once:
“This ritual has begun.”

Move to the edge of the ritual area with the dagger or wand in your power hand. Visualize a blue-white flame issuing from the tip.
Point at the ground and walk clockwise forming the circle’s boundary.
As you walk:
“We consecrate this circle to the Goddess.
Here may she manifest and bless her children.”

Stand facing the alter; raise your hands into the goddess position.
“This is a time that is not a time,
in a place that is not a place,
on a day that is not a day.
We are here to celebrate Lughnasadh!
We stand at the threshold between the worlds,
before the Veil of Mysteries.”

Light the Goddess candle on the alter.
“May the Goddess protect us that we may walk her path forever.
By the bright circle of the golden sun,
by the bright courses of the glorious moon,
by each of these signs,
I call you to this sacred place.
Guard us in this time and place from all evil and unbalanced forces.”

“Come, all those who would help us here this night.
We give you welcome within this sacred circle.
Join your powers with our desires,
that we may create and accomplish.”

Take the dagger and hold it point down over the bowl of water.
“The blessings of the Goddess be upon this river water, symbol of Water.
May it ever remind us of the endless cauldron waters of rebirth.”

Take the dagger and hold it point down over the dish of salt.
“The blessings of the Goddess be upon this salt, symbol of Earth.
May we ever honor the blessed earth that is Her body in the physical world.”

With the tip of the dagger scoop up a little salt and put it in the bowl of water. Swirl them together gently in a clockwise manner.
Hold the bowl high above the alter:
“Water and Earth,
Elements of birth.
By touch, purify.
By power, sanctify.
Great Goddess be you adored.”

Sprinkle the water/salt in a clockwise manner around the boundary of the circle. When done replace the bowl on the alter.

Take the dagger and hold it point down over the candle.
“May the blessings of the Goddess be upon this candle, symbol of Fire.
May we ever honor the sacred fire that dances within us.”

Take the dagger and hold it point down over the incense.
“May the blessings of the Goddess be upon this incense, symbol of Air.
May we always listen to the spiritual inspiration that whispers to our souls.”

Light the incense with the candle. Hold the incense high above the alter.
“Fire and Air,
elements so fair.
By touch, purify.
By power, sanctify.
Great Goddess, be you adored.”

Carry the incense around the boundary of the circle. Return the incense to the alter.

Stand facing the alter.
“Round and round,
the power has bound,
this circle tonight in Otherworld light.
No evil may enter,
no harm befall us.
For this is our will,
and so shall it be.”

Light the Green candle with the goddess candle and take it to the Northern Corner. Trace the invoking pentagram over it.
“Elements of the North,
all those ruled by Earth,
we call you to witness this ritual and guard this circle.”

Light the Yellow candle with the goddess candle and take it to the Eastern Corner. Trace the invoking pentagram over it.
“Elements of the East,
all those ruled by Air,
we call you to witness this ritual and guard this circle.”

Light the Red candle with the goddess candle and take it to the Southern Corner. Trace the invoking pentagram over it.
“Elements of the South,
all those ruled by Fire,
we call you to witness this ritual and guard this circle.”

Light the Blue candle with the goddess candle and take it to the Western Corner. Trace the invoking pentagram over it.
“Elements of the West,
all those ruled by Water,
we call you to witness this ritual and guard this circle.”
