Saying Goodbye

This last fall my cat and familiar Luna disappeared. We lived outside of town and up a mountain. One night she went on walk about (not an uncommon thing) but never came back. I want to believe that she left that night (shortly after I found out we were having to move) that she left because she knew I would not be able to have a cat where ever we ended up living. I was devastated. This was during a very busy, stressful time and I wouldn’t let myself get worked up over it. And I kept hoping she would come home. That was August.

This last month about all I have been able to think about is how much I miss her. I miss the bond we had. She was never a terribly cuddly cat, very much the aloof loaner. But she did cuddle, she did purr at me, and she loved magic.

This is a cat who absolutely HAD to be part of ritual if it was done in our house. She was in circle with us every time, often doing the ‘I looove you’ rub on the sides of the alter. She would always cuddle me if I was reading a ‘witchy book’.

She once attacked the page in a book I was reading. Which was hysterical, because it was in the section on The Burning Times.

My Luna was a medium/long hair grey cat with big yellow-green eyes. Her face was lighter than the rest of her and looked like a full moon. I also brought her home on a full moon. The name seemed fitting. Read the rest of this entry »

Fitness Challenge

Ok, the fitness challenge wanted to know measurements, before and after photos, and a plan.

Here it goes.

1. Measurements.
The only measurement I care about is my waist at this point (she suggests measuring your chest, but if I loose any weight that will be the first place I see a change, whether I want to our not). And since my big goal is to fit my comfy jeans again…
So, my waist is currently 38 (where I wear my waist band). In 3 months I want that to be 34. By the end of 2011 I want it to be 30, but if I can do 4 inches in 3 months I will move that 30 inch goal up.

2. Photos.
Yeah, I’m not sharing those right now.

3. The plan.
I already cut regular soda from my diet.
Next up is all fast food. I will allow myself fast food 1x month, or I’ll start craving and binge on it (know thyself).
Walking more. There is a cool site (will add link in a bit) that had a Lord Of The Rings walking challenge a few years ago. It listed distances walked from different places in the books. In this 3 months I will be walking from Bag End to Rivendell. Thats 397 total miles, or about 5 miles a day. {Off to get a pedometer}
As I get more on a roll I will add in daily crunches and yoga 2-3 times a week.

Pagan Reading Challenges

I decided to make a point of consciously reading more this year. So while tooling around the internet I found not one but two awesome sounding pagan reading challenges.

I’m in.

The Domestic Pagan is doing the 2012 Pagan Reading Challenge. My goal for this is a Beginner Reader (11-15 books). I may up this as the year progresses. Having a Nook might make this easier.

The Pagan Culture blog is also doing a challenge; the Witchy Books Reading Challenge 2012. For this one I’m going with Bookish Darling (13 books). Once again this may go up later.

My hope is that I can read at least one book a month this year even with my upcoming travel schedule.

The first book I’m reading is a re-read for me. The Element Encyclopedia of Witchcraft by Judica Illes. I really like Judica Illes writing style, and I wanted to refresh some of that information in my head.

Up second will be Wicca 400, Advanced Goddess Thealogy.

I’ll post up reviews of the books I read as I go.

Get off Your Broom Fitness Challenge

What the heck. I want to trim down a few inches. Fitting back in my ‘comfy jeans’ would be awesome. That means I need to drop about 4 inches. I can do that in 3 months if I put my mind to it.

The fist challenge on this is to:

First, I want you to take a before picture. Oh the horror! Don’t worry. I won’t be requiring that you post it if you don’t want to. However, you may want to post it at the end of the challenge when you have your after picture. It’s a great way to really see what you accomplish in the next 3 months.

Second, I want you to take your weight and the measurements of at least your hips, waist, and chest. Your thighs and arms are optional. You are doing both weight and measurements because this challenge is about fitness, not just about losing weight. If I lose 5 lbs but my waist hasn’t gotten smaller, than I know I haven’t truly succeeded. Now that you know your starting stats, what are your goals? What can you reasonably accomplish in the next 3 months but is challenging enough to keep you striving? You may even want to break your goals into 3 month increments.

Third, I want you to make a plan. This is the hardest of the three mini-challenges. There are so many diets and exercise plans out there that choosing one can be absolutely overwhelming. It may take some research on your part, but along with knowing where you are going (your goals) you need to know how to get there (your plan). Make this plan as simple or detailed as you would like. Maybe your plan is simply to cut sweets and exercise five times a week. Or maybe you have a plan that includes a comprehensive exercise program that includes cardio, yoga, and strength training and a vegetarian diet complete with menus and a list of superfoods that you should eat.

So. I’ll be working on those in the next day or so, and get those posted up too. Onward to looking/feeling better.

A Whirlwind

I was blessed to be able to take a two week working vacation on the East Coast. We spent a fair amount of time in upstate New York, I was able to spend five amazing days in New York City, and we had a weekend in Boston.

I’ll post up some of the things I have in the wings when I have a chance, and get some new rituals up as well.
